Types Of Bespoke Staircases

Bespoke staircases can transform both functionality and the beauty of your home. Whether you’re looking to update an outdated design or enhance the overall aesthetics, One Stop Joinery is here to guide you through the process. In this article, we will explore various types of staircases and provide insights into their unique features.

Straight Staircases

Straight staircases are the most common type found in residential properties. As the name suggests, they run in a straight line from one floor to another. This simplicity makes them versatile and suitable for different architectural styles. Straight staircases are especially ideal for homes with limited space or those seeking a minimalist design.

Cut String Staircases

A cut string staircase is a type of staircase design where the side strings or stringers, which are the inclined supports on either side of the stairs, have a section removed or cut out to create a visually open and elegant appearance. This design creates a sense of lightness and sophistication.  Cut string staircases are often considered more aesthetically pleasing and can be found in both modern and classic interior designs.

L-Shaped Bespoke Staircases

L-shaped staircases consist of two straight flights set at a right angle to each other, forming an “L” shape with a small quarter spaced landing. This design provides more flexibility in terms of placement within your home. L-shaped stairs can add visual interest while allowing for smoother transitions between floors.

Winder Staircases

Winder stairs are a variation of an L shaped stair but instead of a flat landing, they have Kite-shaped or triangular steps at the corner transition.  They are very common in older homes as they take up less space than may other types of stairs.

U-Shaped Bespoke Staircases

U-shaped staircases feature two parallel flights that curve back on themselves at the top or bottom, creating a U-shape configuration with a half-spaced landing. These grand and elegant designs offer a sense of luxury and sophistication to any property. U-shaped stairs often become focal points in larger homes or buildings with ample space.

Spiral Staircases

Spiral staircases are known for their compact footprint and visually striking appearance. They consist of steps that wind around a central pole or column, forming an elegant helical structure. Spiral stairs are popular choices when space is limited but style is not compromised.

Cantilever Staircases

Floating stairs, also referred to as cantilevered stairs, create an illusion of floating steps without visible structural support underneath them. These modern and minimalist designs make use of hidden steel supports within walls or attached directly to the treads. Floating stairs can give your home a sleek and contemporary look.

Curved Staircases

Curved staircases are designed with a graceful curve that adds an element of elegance and sophistication to any space. These custom-made stairs are often crafted to fit the specific dimensions of your home, creating a seamless integration with the overall architecture. Curved stairs make for stunning focal points in grand entrances or open concept living areas.

Bifurcated Staircase

Split Stairs are also known as bifurcated stairs typically have a wide set of stairs starting at the bottom that ends at a landing partway up the flight. The stairs split at the landing into two narrower sets of stairs leading in opposite directions. They add an impressive architectural design statement to the building.

Typically used in large homes or commercial buildings as a Grand Entry.
